This week on stream was all about board games and Mario Day! I skipped the usual PB Friday attempts on Donald Duck and Ninja Spirit and instead focused on ascension mode in Slay The Spire. I slayed all the way up to Act 4 and the showdown with the Corrupt Heart with The Defect but came up short again. Impossible Game! 😉
Saturday morning kicked off with a nice 4 hour board game stream with a lot of awesome chat interaction. It was my best stream to date! The valiant efforts of The Argent Adept, Tempest, Nightmist, and Wraith were no match for Baron Blade. He successfully pulled the Moon into the Earth twice during the Sentinels of the Multiverse Weekly Oneshot: Moon Over Anubis. A sad day for all mankind.
Moving on from the mad scientist in Egyptian ruins, we tried our luck and our estate building strategies in The Castles of Burgundy. I blogged last week about Castles, and my opinion of it being a stellar board game port remains intact. I did run into a few bugs or interface problems when trying to start a game with random, different game boards. I was unable to figure out how to select which board to play on. Nevertheless, we got a couple of relaxing games in. The digital port has some really fantastic medieval themed music that is quite pleasant.
Wrapping up Saturday’s stream, we opened up a blast from the past with Ascension. It had been awhile since I’ve played the deck-builder Ascension, but it all came back pretty quickly. Ascension is the first deck-builder I can remember that had 2 forms of currency – money to recruit heroes, and attack power to defeat monsters. Defeating monsters gives you immediate points and sometimes a benefit, while the heroes you recruit grant powerful effects and are worth points at the end of the game. It’s an interesting balance between figuring out when to recruit the heroes that add attack power and when to focus on recruiting heroes and purchasing cards that give you more money. The worst thing in Ascension is having a hand full of currency cards and a sea full of monsters that you can’t defeat.
Saturday’s chat was lit. I’m excited to announce that because of all the chat, I unlocked the last Twitch achievement for Building A Community: The VIPs!
Thank you chat, I literally couldn’t have done this without you, and why would I want to? The biggest draw of streaming games on Twitch is the chat interaction. It lifts a streamer’s spirits up when the chat is active. I love hearing about your day, what your up to, and what games you are excited about playing!
Sunday we celebrated Mario Day (Mar10!) with some Mario Party 8 and Mario Kart 8 on Wii and Wii U. This was also the perfect stream to fire up the Flashforge 3D Printer to print out this awesome model found on Thingiverse!
Check out the finished print on Instagram too!
Luigi was able to overcome some patented Mario Party Last 5 Turns shenanigans to take home the Superstar Title! Luigi had a slightly harder time navigating the treacherous paths of Mario Kart 8. We played through all the cups as the Mario Kart figure printed, winning most, coming in 2nd or 3rd in a few, and completely throwing away the Lightning Cup race and ending in 4th. Mario Kart is such a great franchise…
And now that I bought a Switch, we can continue the Mario goodness on stream. Nintendo fully embraces the Mar10 Day phenomenon and rolled out sales that were too good to pass on. Check them out! I can’t wait to share my experiences with Super Mario Odyssey, Sonic Mania, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Not to mention, Mario Marker 2 is due out in June!
